Martin has a Specialization (Board, 2000) in Internal Medicine, in Diabetology (Board, 2001) and in Endocrinology (Board, 2005). He was promoted to university lecturer in 2004 (Habilitation, Ludwig-Maximilans-University, Munich).
Martin was awarded the Silvia-King-Award in 1997 and the Project-Award, "Characterization of insulin antibody subclass responses to exogenous insulin in gestational and type 2 diabetes" in 2000, both from the German Diabetes Association (DDG).
Martin has been the Co-Chairperson of the 5. Annual Autumn Meeting of the German Diabetes Society (DDG), Berlin, in November 2011. He is the Head of diabetes classes for diabetes advisers (German Diabetes Association at the Catholic Academy for social careers, Regensburg, Germany), a Commissioner of the guideline commission 'Therapy of Type 1 Diabetes" of the German Diabetes Association (2011), a Co-Chairperson of the Commission for the approval of diabetologists (Diabetologe DDG) according to the curriculum of the German Diabetes Association (DDG), a Member of the Diabetes Research Group e.V. at the Helmholtz Center Munich, Germany, a Member of EASD and a Member of the German Diabetes Association (DDG).
Since 1996 he gives Seminars and Student Courses in Internal Medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich (LMU), Seminars in Diabetology for Teaching Nurses (DDG Certificate) and Seminars in Diabetology for Residents (DDG Certificate). He is a peer reviewer for the journal Diabetologia, Exp Clin Endocrinol Diabetes, Diabetic Medicine, Diabetes und Stoffwechsel, DMW since 1996.
